Settling in / Transitioning

Settling In
We at Barley Lane Montessori Day Nursery Understand how difficult it can be for parents/carers to leave their little ones in the care of someone they are not familiar with. Keeping this in mind, we have devised a very relaxed and flexible settling in policy.

Once you have registered your child with us, we will discuss the start date of the child, followed by settling in dates.
Depending on the child, and their individual needs, parents/carers can settle their children. Ranging from two to three weeks, children can be left to settle with us every day for 2 hours in the morning.
In the first week parents/carers can stay with their children in the room. Gradually as the child settles ad starts to form relationships with their key persons and other children, parents/carers can leave them with us.

Every child is unique and different in their own way. Thus no two settlings will be the same. We at Barley Lane Montessori Day Nursery respect every child’s unique personality and work out our settling in period around their needs.

Transitioning
We transition on two occasions:
  • From one room to another.
  • From pre-school to primary school.
From one room to another
We support children’s transition through: our transition records; communication between old and new key persons; and effective communication with the parents. A relaxed and supported settling is given to children.

From Pre-school to Primary School
We make contact with all the foundation stage/reception years co-ordinators of the Primary schools our children go into.
Next we arrange for the children to spend an hour on a tour of their new school, meeting prospective teachers while there.
We prepare summative report (end of the Early Years Foundation Stage reports) for the schools, which is then handed over to the new reception teacher.
